The "King of Bachata" has been touring since 2014, and has traveled throughout North and South America. Last year he was the leading artist in the history of the Latin Billboard Music Awards with 21 mentions, and obtaining 10 awards. Within the categories this year, including Artist of the Year; Tour of the Year; "Hot Latin Songs" Artist of the Yeat, Male; Producer of the Year; Songwriter of the Year; "Tropical Songs" Artist of the Year, Solo; "Tropical Albums" Artist of the Year, Solo; and Artist of the Year, Social Media.
With more than 954 million views on YouTube, not surprisingly the success for "Propuesta Indecente" is nominated for "Hot Latin Song" Vocal Collaboration. His song "Yo También" with Marc Anthony, will compete for Tropical Song of the Year. While "Hilito" is a finalist for Song of the Year and Tropical Song of the Year, Airplay.
Impossible not to mention the 20-time runner-up Enrique Iglesias, who took home nine awards last year including "Latin Pop Album" of the Year and "Latin Pop Song" of the Year, has not lost his rhythm with 11 mentions this year.
Including his success in collaboration with Nicky Jam, "El Perdón" is a finalist for "Hot Latin Song" Vocal Collaboration; Song of the Year, Airplay; Song of the Year, Digital; Song of the Year, Streaming; and Song of the Year "Latin Rhythm". His tour with Pitbull was a great success being finalists once again for Tour of the Year.
Nicky Jam is second with 11 finalist awards. He will also be singing during the awards ceremony, by doing so, he will be starting his first tour in the United States, driven by its success in the duet with Enrique Iglesias "El Perdón", his second song with the longest lasting on the "Hot Lating Songs" chart list. Nicky Jam is also a finalist for his collaboration on the song "Sunset" with Farruko & Shaggy. The artist is also competing against Romeo Santos for Songwriter of the Year award.
The Colombian urban artist J Balvin, has once again reached the top of the lists with songs like "Ay Vamos" and "Ginza" his biggest hit so far. This year he is finalist in eight categories.
Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga confirmed that they were gonna be performing during the event this year, they are finalist for six awards, just like Julión Álvarez y su Norteño Banda, Marc Anthony and Ricky Martin respectively; while Calibre 50 and Gerardo Ortiz are finalists for five awards. Gente de Zona, Shakira and Victor Manuelle will be competing for four awards each. The shortlisted artists for three awards are Farruko, Pitbull, and Zion & Lennox; while Aventura, Baby Rasta & Gringo, Banda Clave Nueva de Max Peraza, Buena Vista Social Club, Chiquis Rivera, Christian Daniel, Don Omar, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jesse &Joy, Joan Sebastian, Juanes, Maluma, Natalia Jiménez, Plan B, Prince Royce, Selena and Yandel, will be competing for two awards.
Billboard will also be rpesenting its prestigious descretionary awards including the Spirit of Hope Award, Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement. Some of the previous winners for these categories were: Andrea Bocelli, El Recondo, Carlos Santana, Ricardo Montaner, Miguel Bose, Shakira and Vicente Fernandez.
