Paquita la del Barrio will be honored with the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Billboard and Telemundo announced that renowned Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio will be honored with the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards (BLMAs), for an enduring and exceptional career, encompassing artistic and personal contributions that have had a major impact on Latin music worldwide.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will take place on Thursday, September 23rd, and will be broadcast live on Telemundo starting at 7pm/6c.

A singer of ranchera and bolero music for more than 50 years, Paquita la del Barrio is considered "La Reina del Pueblo" (The Queen of the Pueblo) and an icon of popular music whose songs are characterized by denouncing the macho culture and attitude.

Born Francisca Viveros Barradas in Veracruz, Mexico, Paquita la del Barrio discovered her powerful voice and musical talent as a child, while frequently singing at school festivals. In the 70's, she formed the duet "Las Golondrinas" with her sister Viola, and later in 1984 she recorded her first album: El barrio de los faroles which led to her new stage name Paquita la del Barrio.

Her popularity grew rapidly and her restaurant "Casa Paquita," where she sang, became a hot spot for artists and music celebrities, from Joaquín Sabina to Luis Miguel. To date, the star has recorded 33 albums with sales of over 30 million copies. Her songs include "Tres Veces Te Engañé," "Rata De Dos Patas," "Las Rodilleras," "Las Mujeres Mandan," "La Última Parada," "Me Saludas A La Tuya," "Soltero Maduro, Chiquito," "Hombres Malvados" and others.

In 2009, she recorded "Ni Tú Ni Yo" with Ricardo Arjona, a duet that took her to Argentina and Colombia. She has also shared the stage with renowned artists such as Vicente Fernández, Marco Antonio Solís, Jenni Rivera, Joan Sebastian, Juan Gabriel, and Pepe Aguilar. In 2011, in honor of her 40th anniversary, she received the Billboard Regional Mexican Music Award "La Voz".

In addition to receiving countless awards and accolades in Mexico, the United States, and Central America, her artistic career also includes film and television. Her life story, a journey from humble origins to greatness, is told in a bio-series, and she is currently preparing an album to celebrate her 50-year career.

Past recipients of the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award include Flaco Jiménez, Jorge Pinos, Los Lobos, Armando Manzanero, Miguel Bosé, Conjunto Primavera, Santana, Los Temerarios, Emmanuel, Intocable, José José, Andrea Boccelli, Roberto Carlos, Marco Antonio Solís, Ricardo Arjona and Maná.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will be broadcast live on Telemundo, kicking off at 7pm/6c with the traditional red carpet special, followed by the awards show at 8pm/7c. The event will also be simulcast on Hispanic entertainment cable channel, Universo, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

The awards will coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, which returns to Miami from September 20-24, 2021, and will host live conversations and performances with superstars like Karol G, Daddy Yankee, Nicky Jam, and many more.
