Telemundo and Billboard announced today that the King of Reggaeton, Daddy Yankee, will be recognized with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards for an incredible career that spans his musical performances and global influence as an artist. The renowned star will also perform his latest hit “Metele al Perreo” for the first time on television, at the prestigious awards show on Thursday, September 23rd, which will be broadcast live on Telemundo beginning at 7pm/6c.

The Billboard Hall of Fame Award is given to artists who have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, transcending musical genres and languages. With over three decades in urban music, Daddy Yankee is one of the pioneers and top promoters of reggaeton, leading and elevating the genre into a cultural phenomenon, which has fueled an explosion in popularity of Latin music worldwide.

Daddy Yankee is one of the most popular and followed artists in the world today, with over 60 million followers across social media and more than seven billion streams in the last 12 months alone on YouTube, where he is among the Top 20 Global Artists. He has also sold more than 17 million albums and placed 84 entries on the Hot Latin Songs chart, with seven of those hitting No. 1 and 36 landing in the top 10. On the Latin Airplay chart, he has logged a total of 73 titles, including 24 No. 1s and 42 top 10s.

Recognized as one of the most influential Hispanics in the world by CNN and Time magazine, and as the Top Latin Artist of 2017 by Billboard Magazine, Daddy Yankee continues to dominate global music.  His widely popular "Despacito," which was named the most-streamed song and the most-watched video of all time on YouTube, highlights his music’s extensive reach, while "Dura" was the second most-watched video in 2018 and 2019. Additionally, "Con Calma" has become the "Most Watched" video globally on YouTube and has received over one billion streams on Spotify.

On the social front, his philanthropic work through "Daddy's House" has been recognized by Billboard with the Spirit of Hope Award.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will broadcast live on Telemundo beginning at 7pm/6c with the traditional red carpet arrival special "La Alfombra de los Premios Billboard", followed by the awards show at 8pm/7c. The music special will also broadcast simultaneously on Spanish entertainment cable network, Universo and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.
