Rekindle the fire!
Are you caught-up in a sexless marriage? On average, how often do you make love? If you are married or live with your significant other and your answer is 10 times per year or less, then you fall into what experts call a "sexless" relationship. What causes couples to decrease their level of intimacy? Our resident love-doctor, Cecilia Alegria, La Dra Amor, explains.
On average, newlyweds make love twice a week. Once a couple hits the five-year mark, the number of times they make love plummets to an average of about twice a month. The couple gets used to the scarcity of sex, and it becomes normal. Sexologists and relationship councilors recommend, however, that a couple make love at least once a week.
Let?s take a look at the three most-common reasons couples lose their sexual appetites:
1. Stress. We live in a fast-paced world, therefore, stress has become the most-common excuse for the avoidance of intimacy with our significant others. We usually come home, tired from a busy day at work, and either conk out as soon as we hit the sack, or sit in front of the TV to unwind.
2. Sexual Taboos. Another reason for the decline in sexual relations could be pre-conceived notions about sex. Women are sometimes unable to perform their best in bed since they don?t want to come across as being "too easy" or "too experienced". This could result in an estrangement of sorts as time goes by.
3. Predictability. Routine and lack of innovation is the third reason people have less and less sex as their relationships progress. Sex becomes repetitive until it gets boring. Thus, the mutual interest decreases and making love ends up being almost an obligation that is forced on one another.
Problems affect relationships in general and also the amount of time two people spend together. The lack of physical contact and sexual dissatisfaction increases the distance between both interested parties in a relationship and becomes a vicious cycle.
Nevertheless, it is possible for a couple that hasn?t been intimate in a long time, even if they?ve been in the coldest of sexless marriages, to rekindle the fire they previously felt. Remember that love once held you together and the flame of passion could be lit again.
Making love is the most rewarding experience for a couple that loves each other to live. Their feelings for one another are expressed through the closeness of their bodies and the merging of their souls as they become one. It is important to remember, however, that intimacy goes beyond mere sex. A relationship also needs tender kisses and a sincere and spontaneous "I love you". Keep an open mind and communicate with your significant other at all times. Only you can make the difference!
