Latin AMAs 2022: Lupita D'Alessio will be honored with the Legend Award

Lupita D'Alessio, who has a successful career of more than 50 years, is considered one of the greatest performers in Latin America.

Miami, FL — March 9, 2022 — Telemundo announced today that celebrated Mexican singer Lupita D’Alessio will be bestowed the Legend Award during the seventh edition of the Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs) 2022. D’Alessio will receive this recognition and perform during the awards ceremony which will broadcast LIVE on Telemundo on Thursday, April 21 beginning at 7pm/6c from the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Latin AMAs Legend Award is presented to an artist who at the very mention of their name conjures a vivid and vibrant image. An artist who has attained success and stood the test of time. Lupita D’Alessio boasts more than 50 years of a successful artistic career that she has built with great tenacity and strength, creating a unique style that has elevated her as one of Mexico’s most renowned artists and a music superstar in Latin America.

Known as the "Sleeping Lioness", D’Alessio’s strong interpretative character and force have been key in each of her songs, with classics such as 'Mudanzas', 'Acariciame', 'Que Ganas de No Verte Nunca Mas', 'Ese Hombre', 'Como Tu' and 'Lo Siento Mi Amor', among others, which have become iconic pieces in the Latin American songbook.

Born in Mexico City, Guadalupe Contreras Ramos, her given name, began her musical career at a very early age with small appearances in a program hosted by her father in Tijuana, Baja California. She began her professional career in 1971 at the Festival Internacional de la Canción Popular and in 1978, she won at the coveted OTI Festival.

During the past five decades she has maintained a brilliant artistic career, accumulating 60 live, studio and compilation albums, participating in 11 soap operas, and selling over 40 million albums. At 67 years of age, Lupita D’Alessio is still going strong, releasing her most recent album at the end of last year, recording a live CD + DVD from the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, and continuing her 'Aquí Estoy Yo' tour, which launched in Mexico, and will soon visit the U.S., with more than 12 shows confirmed for this year.

Her wide repertoire, powerful voice, and interpretative strength, which allow her to create a hit out of any song, make Lupita D’Alessio an international music icon, whose work spans generations and makes her worthy of the Latin AMAs Legend Award.
