Telemundo announced that Alejandro Fernández will be recognized with the Icon Award during the sixth edition of the Latin American Music Awards.

Telemundo announced today that internationally renowned singer Alejandro Fernández will be recognized with the Icon Award during the sixth edition of the Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs) 2021.

In addition to receiving the award, Fernández will also hit the Latin AMAs stage for a worldwide premiere. The Latin AMAs will take place Thursday, April 15, and will broadcast live on Telemundo starting at 7 pm/6c from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

The Latin AMAs Icon Award is given to an artist who interprets our life in his songs, forms an important part of Latin America’s history, and is considered a musical hero. His name exceeds all generations. His audience admires him, and other artists are inspired daily by his brilliance.

Alejandro Fernández, "El Potrillo" (The Colt), is the greatest promoter of Mexican music worldwide. The son of a living legend, Vicente Fernández, Alejandro has forged an impressive solo musical career, conquering stages throughout the globe thanks to his very personal interpretation of Mexican music.

With over 35 million records sold and countless awards and nominations throughout his career, Alejandro Fernández has exalted the name of Mexico around the world, achieving numerous No.1s on the Billboard charts in Mexico, the United States, Spain and Latin America. Through collaborations with artists such as Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, Rod Stewart, and Plácido Domingo, among others, “El Potrillo” has taken his Mexican roots to the most prestigious international stages.

His most recent album, Hecho en México (Made in Mexico,) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Album chart, making Fernández the first artist to achieve this milestone in four different decades, the 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s. This solidifies his position as one of the stars with the greatest presence in today's music, as he continues to conquer new generations.

Beyond the stage, Alejandro Fernández is well known for his altruistic work. In addition to his immense contribution to Latin music, his service to those most in need, coupled with his constant support for Latino immigrants in the United States, make him worthy of the Latin AMAs Icon Award.
