Under the umbrella “The Telemundo Edge,” Telemundo Global Studios presented its slate of originals set to go into production and development this year at an event held last night as part of the Content Americas trade market. Hosted by Karen Barroeta, Executive Vice President of Production and Development for Telemundo Global Studios, “The Telemundo Edge” highlights the Studios’ focus on producing modern, premium content for mainstream audiences.
“As witnessed by the overwhelming success of last week’s premiere of season 8 of El Señor de los Cielos, Telemundo Global Studios continues to deliver the highest rated Super Series and multi-seasonal franchises anywhere,” said Barroeta. “For 2023, we will focus on delivering high quality romantic dramas, thrillers and action through our content, with the most realistic, relatable and edgy characters, all brought to life by a stellar cast and crew, both in front of and behind the cameras. This is just a glimpse of our commitment to excellence, with the eagerness to dare to go for more and bet on great ideas... This is The Telemundo Edge.”
The new series going into production and development this year are:
Hasta Encontrarte (working title): Starring William Levy and Samadhi Zendejas, with Kimberly Dos Ramos as the antagonist, this romantic drama follows Nuria, a woman of humble means, who begins a relationship with Braulio without knowing that he is one of the owners of the company where she works to support her son. Braulio, who is determined to save his marriage to Amelia, a sterile woman, accepts his wife’s request to adopt a son. Braulio and Amelia end up adopting Nuria’s young son, who has spent a year in an orphanage after being kidnapped. Nuria undertakes a desperate search to find and recover her son, who does not recognize her as his mother.
Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso: This fan-favorite franchise returns, bringing us back into the world of Catalina Santana, her struggles in love and her never ending efforts to protect her family. The first four seasons of this global hit aired on Telemundo in the U.S. and around the world, also making it a social media phenomenon. This new season promises to be as action-packed and full of drama as fans have come to expect and love. The project is a co-development with TIS (previously Telecolombia and Estudios Telemexico.) The franchise also became the number one Spanish-language series globally on Netflixin full year 2017 and a Top 10 scripted series on Netflix in Colombia in 2020.
Mujer de Oro: An original idea by Jose Ignacio Valenzuela, better known as “El Chascas”, this dramatic thriller follows Rebecca Arismendi, a widowed millionaire who inherits a chain of jewelry stores after the mysterious death of her husband. Quickly entangled in a new relationship with her personal trainer, she is surprised to discover that her late husband’s testament leaves part of the company ownership to his first wife and Rebecca’s daughter, Beatriz. The shocking news creates a ripple effect of secretive passions, betrayals, revenge, duels for power and eventually, death.
Blue Cage: Currently in production, this is the first premium series to result from Telemundo Global Studios’ co-production agreement with Turkey’s Inter Medya. In this suspense drama, Oğuz has lost his wife and resettled with his children in a coastal town where fate has him save a young woman by the name of Defne and bring her into his home. Her presence brings back some of the hope they had all lost. When this woman recovers her lost memory, she realizes she was a con artist who must now remain in hiding. How long can Defne keep her secret safe? What will Oğuz do when he finds out about the mob? Will it drive him away?
In addition to the above titles, Barroeta highlighted several of the Studios’ original productions slated to premiere this year on Telemundo, including:
El Señor de los Cielos: coming back for its eighth season which premiered just last week on Telemundo, the return of Rafael Amaya as legendary Aurelio Casillas placed Telemundo as the number one network regardless of language on premiere night among Adults 18 to 49. At the start of season eight, all who know Aurelio Casillas, from his immediate family to the rest of the world, have no choice but to accept his spectacular death. Yet, some forces, like the best-kept secrets, never stay down. The notorious Señor de los Cielos is alive, breathing new fire, and destined to take back his place of power. Striking a powerful union with allies from previous seasons, Casillas faces new romantic entanglements while dealing with unexpected family mysteries, risking all he’s ever held dear as he embarks on his cunning plan of revenge.
Juego de Mentiras: Starring Arap Bethke, Altair Jarabo and Maria Elisa Camargo, this dramatic thriller kicks off when Adriana Molina disappears, and all clues point to her husband Cesar Ferrer as the main suspect in her possible murder. Determined to prevent his eight-year-old daughter from being taken from him, Cesar takes the investigation into his own hands. Cesar discovers that Adriana apparently led a double life and had a lover, belonging to a rich and powerful family. Virtually all the characters become suspects, as each one of them has a reason –even if only apparent– for wanting to eliminate her. Meanwhile, Cesar’s freedom, love and future are at stake as he searches for answers.
El Conde: Amor y Honor: The stellar cast of this period drama includes Fernando Colunga, Ana Brenda Contreras, Marjorie de Sousa, Chantal Andere and Sergio Sendel, among many others. The series tells the story of Alejandro, a humble young farmer, and Mariana, a beautiful and rebellious young woman, who live a beautiful love story. But Josefina de Zambrano, Mariana’s stepmother, and Gerardo Villarreal conspire to turn their relationship into a living hell. When Alejandro is charged with a double homicide, without anyone knowing his fate, he is transferred to a dungeon on a remote island. There he meets a Spanish nobleman serving a life sentence who will reveal to Alejandro that he has a hidden treasure, leaving him this fortune before his death. When Alejandro manages to escape in the 50s, he returns to San Jacinto with an immense fortune and discovers that Mariana married Gerardo and that he was left for dead. He then decides to execute a plan to bring justice against those who betrayed him, especially Mariana who he believes is part of the conspiracy. Alejandro returns as the powerful Count Joaquín de Montenegro, unleashing a dangerous quest for revenge against those responsible for his wrongful imprisonment.
