Hollywood is mourning the unfortunate death of Sean Connery, the actor who first played James Bond in film in the 1960s. He died at the age of 90.
So far the causes of death are unknown, however, a representative of the James Bond icon revealed to 'People' that he died on Saturday while he was sleeping at his home in the Bahamas.
"His wife Micheline and his two sons, Jason and Stephane have confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family," said the rep. "There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended."
Jason, 57, confirmed his father's death to the BBC, saying the Oscar-Winning actor was "unwell for some time."
"We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time," his son said. "A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."
After this great loss to the world of cinema, one of Connery’s last photo ever started circulating on social media. The photo was taken on August 25, 2019, the date he celebrated his 89th birthday. The image was shared by his daughter-in-law Fiona Ufton, Jason's wife, on her Twitter account.
Pictured is Fiona and Jason hugging the big screen legend as he looks away from the camera with a smile and points his index finger into the air. Without a doubt, this photo will remain engraved in the memory of all his faithful followers, as it shows the great human being that Sean was and the immense love he had for his family.
Connery was married twice, first to Australian actress Diane Cilento, whom he divorced in 1973 and with whom he shares a common son, Jason. Cliento died of cancer at the age of 78 in 2011.
Later, he married the French-Moroccan artist Micheline Roquebrune, who had three children from previous marriages and Connery loved Oliver, Micha, and Stephane as his own children.
In 2011, Connery announced that he was retiring from acting and remained out of the public eye spending time in New York City, where he was occasionally seen strolling with his beloved wife.
Sean Connery's widow spoke for the first time after the death of her husband and revealed to 'Daily Mail' how the last months of the actor's life were including his struggle with dementia.
“It was no life for him,” she said. “It took its toll on him,” Roquebrune added. He was not able to express himself latterly.”
