Sammy Colon Wins 'La Voz' Season 2

Jacky Bracamontes and Jorge Bernal proclaimed Sammy Colón from Team Vives as the winner of the grand finale.

Coaches Luis Fonsi, Alejandra Guzmán, Carlos Vives and Wisin concluded their search for the nation's most promising vocalist of “La Voz” when hosts Jacky Bracamontes and Jorge Bernal proclaimed Sammy Colón from Team Vives as the winner of the grand finale that aired on August 16th.

The talented Puerto Rican resident of Holiday, Florida, won the coveted trophy, $ 200,000 in cash, and a recording contract with Universal Music Group to produce, record and commercially release a single. The two-hour celebration featured musical performances by the four coaches alongside the finalists who sang for the last time on stage, as well as guest stars like Latin pop duo Mau and Ricky, Camilo, and Rauw Alejandro.

Throughout the competition, Sammy wowed the coaches with his voice at the blind auditions when he performed José José's hit, “El Triste”. After joining the team of musical star and coach Carlos Vives, his unique voice served him well during the battles, showdowns and when he stepped on stage to perform Marc Anthony's hit song “Cambio de Piel” during the semi-final. Since the age of five, he dabbled in music when he played bongos while his mother danced and sang in his native Puerto Rico.

The talented young man followed his mother's footsteps singing bachata and merengue at pubs, quinceañera parties and special events. Little by little, he gained local fame as part of an orchestra on the island until he met his wife, with whom he has two children. After the catastrophic Hurricane María in Puerto Rico, Sammy moved with his family to the United States, where he joined a musical group to follow his passion and love for music. When the opportunity to audition for Telemundo's “La Voz” arose, he saw it as a second chance to achieve his life-long dream of becoming a musical star.

In addition, at the grand finale of “La Voz”, José Class from Team Fonsi was announced as the runner up, followed by Sugeily Cardona from Team Guzmán, while Andrea Serrano from Team Wisin occupied fourth place in votes. The rest of the finalists were, from Team Fonsi: Emily Piriz, Isaí Reyes, Brian Cruz and Rubí Mar Monge; from Team Guzmán: Julio Cesar Castillo; from Team Vives: Jimmy Rodríguez; Diana Puentes, Jorge Franco and Kayson Luis Burgos; and from Team Wisin: Albin St. Rose and Aaron Barrios, who joined the team after winning The Comeback Stage.
