Miami, FL – September 16, 2020 – Telemundo and Billboard announced today that Latin music global icon Maluma will perform at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and will be honored with the “Billboard Spirit of Hope Award" for his commitment and altruistic efforts surrounding his foundation El Arte de los Sueños (The Art of Dreams), which supports youth at risk of accomplishing their dreams. The Billboard Latin Music Awards will be broadcast LIVE on Telemundo on Wednesday, October 21 starting at 7pm/6c with the red carpet pre-show followed at 8pm/7c by the three-hour awards show from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

The Billboard Spirit of Hope Award was created by Billboard in honor of Selena, and throughout the past 20 years has been given to an artist in recognition of their extraordinary philanthropic and humanitarian contributions beyond their musical work. Previous recipients include Emmanuel, Willy Chirino, Olga Tañón, Maná, Los Tigres del Norte, Ricky Martin, El General, Soraya, Juan Luis Guerra, Shakira, Ricardo Montaner, Juanes, Daddy Yankee, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Carlos Vives, Carlos Santana and Luis Fonsi.

In 2016, world renowned Maluma created, together with his family, El Arte de los Sueños (The Art of Dreams) foundation dedicated to shape at risk youth via art. Through song, dance, percussion and creative art (all with an urban emphasis), as well as psychosocial care, the organization seeks to generate the tools needed to seek a different lifestyle, so that these young dreamers can face the world and its challenges.

The organization currently serves approximately 170 young individuals within six municipalities of Antioquia (Colombia), who thanks to their talent receive a quality education that permits them to embark as artists, but more importantly, as excellent human beings.

The dual musical and altruistic talents of the 26-year-old Colombian superstar have allowed him to succeed and propel himself worldwide since he wrote his first song at the age of 15, winning countless awards and recognition throughout the music world.

The singer and songwriter of hit songs such as “Hawái,” “Felices los 4,” “Chantaje,” and "Borró Cassette," as well as a finalist this year in the categories of Tropical Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Artist of the Year, Solo, has just made history, becoming the first artist to top one of Billboard’s newest global charts, the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., which launched September 14, 2020 and is also at No. 2 of the Global 200 chart. In the short span of five years, Maluma has placed 17 songs in the No. 1 post on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart and has just garnered his second No. 1 in the Hot Latin Songs chart with “Hawái.” In addition, he has placed 39 titles on the Hot Latin Songs chart, with 12 of them within the top 10.

Maluma has also filmed his first movie in which he co-stars with Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson and which premieres February 14, 2021. In the last few weeks, Maluma and Jennifer Lopez have taken to social media to tease about the fact that this is not the only collaboration they are working on, as they have other musical projects for which details have not yet been revealed.

The awards will coincide with Billboard’s Latin Music Week, a three-day virtual experience dedicated to Latin music, culture, and entertainment. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the event will take place October 20-23 and will feature intimate artist conversations, industry panels, exclusive performances and more. For more information and to RSVP, visit BillboardLatinMusicWeek.com.  For the latest news, visit Billboard.com/Latin
