John Travolta who starred in the iconic film, 'Grease', alongside co-star and friend Olivia Newton-John has paid tribute to her and many others in the film industry at the 95th Academy Awards. Despite the fact that Newton-John is no longer alive, she has become one of the many names that have been immortalized at the Oscars.
The Academy chose Travolta to present the 'In Memoriam' segment of the 2023 edition of the gala. After he spoke, a video was released showing everyone involved with the film industry who have passed away in the last year.
In addition to Newton-John, many others were highlighted such as Kirstie Alley, who passed away on December 5 at the age of 71 and starred in ‘Look Who’s Talking’ with Travolta in the late 1980s. These two losses have been tough since he has considered both of them fundamental in his life.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ actor’s speech focused on the importance of having friends in the film industry. The actor stressed the importance of being a part of their lives. Travolta added that the unfortunate thing is that over the years these people complete their cycle and leave.

In his emotional speech, he added the following about all the people in the world of cinema who have left: “They touched our hearts, they made us smile, and became dear friends who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.” Travolta said this as a nod to ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’, Olivia Newton-John's iconic solo song in ‘Grease’.
Although Travolta has established a professional and admirable career in film, playing all kinds of roles, he is best remembered through his roles with Olivia Newton-John and Kirstie Alley; Both actresses have been an important part of the fans who have followed his career.
When Olivia passed away, her co-star wrote a beautiful message on her Instagram account, “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!" Your Danny, your John! He shared at that sad moment.
