Michael Douglas has been cast for the role of Hank Pym in Marvel's upcoming superhero flick 'Ant-Man.'

Michael Douglas will star in Marvel's 'Ant-Man'.

The 69-year-old actor will play the role of scientist Henry Pym, known as Hank, in the upcoming superhero flick directed by Edgar Wright, and thinks his 13-year-old son Dylan - who he had with Catherine Zeta-Jones - will "love" the project.

Douglas was quoted saying: "I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan will love it. He'll have a picture he can see."

Marvel are thrilled to have Douglas on board and are excited to see the award-winning actor bring the iconic character to life.

In a statement Studios President Kevin Feige said: "With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves.

"We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits and couldn't be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life."

Douglas - who was awarded a Golden Globe on Sunday (12.01.14) for his performance in 'Behind the Candelabra' - will star alongside 'Anchorman' actor Paul Rudd who is cast as creator of technology, Scott Lang.

'Ant-Man' is expected to be released in July 2015.
