"He\'s very territorial," the singer says of soccer star Gerard Pique.
There\'s a reason why Shakira\'s new single "Can\'t Remember To Forget You" features Rihanna -- and a steamy accompanying music video in which the two female superstars caress each other -- and not a male playing her counterpart in the clip. In Billboard\'s new cover story on Shakira, the Colombian singer reveals that her boyfriend, soccer star Gerard Pique, is not permissive of any music videos in which his girl is romantically linked to another man.
"He\'s very territorial, and since he no longer lets me do videos with men, well, I have to do them with women," Shakira says with a laugh of Pique. "It\'s more than implied in our relationship that I can\'t do videos like I used to. It\'s out of the question -- which I like, by the way. I like that he protects his turf and he values me, in a way that the only person that he would ever let graze my thigh would be Rihanna."
The biggest U.S. hit of Shakira\'s career happens to be a collaboration with a male artist -- "Hips Don\'t Lie," featuring Wyclef Jean. The 2006 track landed at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart, and has sold 3.6 million downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"Can\'t Remember To Forget You," which precedes the Mar. 25 release of new album "Shakira," has peaked at No. 15 on the Hot 100 chart thus far. Tom Corson, president and COO of RCA Records, calls it "an event record. You get the two biggest stars in the world together and make a sexy, fun video. It was too good to pass."
During Billboard\'s cover shoot with Shakira, the singer discusses what she hopes for her son Milan\'s future, as well as her role on "The Voice" and her upcoming album. Watch the exclusive behind-the-scenes video below:
