Romeo Ties Enrique's no. 1s

Romeo ties Enrique on Latin chart

Bachata star Romeo Santos ties Enrique Iglesias’ long-standing record for the most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart from one album, as “Llevame Contigo,” jumps 5-1. The track appears on Santos’ breakout solo album “Formula Vol. 1.”

Iglesias had established the mark in 1995-96 when he sent five tracks from his self-titled debut set to the top of the Nielsen BDS-based ranking: “Si Tu Te Vas,” “Experiencia Religiosa,” “Por Amarte,” “No Llores Por Mi” and “Trapecista.”

Santos’ No. 1 run began nearly two years ago when “You“ logged the first of its seven weeks in charge (May, 28, 2011). He continued his streak with “Promise,” featuring Usher (10 weeks, 2011-12), and the one-week No. 1s “Mi Santa,” featuring Tomatito (March 3, 2012), and “La Diabla” (Aug. 4, 2012).

“Formula Vol. 1” is Santos’ first solo album following the breakup of the award-winning group Aventura, which itself topped Latin Airplay twice, as well as the Tropical Airplay chart eight times. The act has sold 1.7 million albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, with two sets ruling Top Latin Albums and five reaching No. 1 on Tropical Albums.

With the release of this week’s charts, “Formula Vol. 1” will tally its 70th week on Top Latin Albums, 17 spent at No. 1. The set has sold 291,000 copies since its release.

All charts will be refreshed on Billboard.com and Billboardbiz on Thursday (March 14), as they are each week.
