Meet This Week's Latin Artist on the Rise: Camilo Echeverry

Camilo proudly breaks in with his romantic pop songs fused with urban beats.

During the last few years, we’ve seen many Latin stars such as J BalvinMaluma and Karol G rising from Medellín, Colombia. Even though most of these singers are totally urban, Camilo (full name Camilo Echeverry) proudly breaks in with his romantic pop songs fused with urban beats.

Although the 25-year-old artist is only now launching his solo career, you’ve heard his music before. He has written hits like "Sin Pijama,” recorded by Becky G and Natti Natasha, “Veneno” by Anitta and “Ya No Tiene Novio” performed by Sebastian Yatra with Mau & Ricky. Camilo was also part of the group of composers that Ricardo Montaner chose for his latest album, Montaner. That’s not a total coincidence; Camilo is engaged to Eva Luna Montaner. But his songwriting chops have been proven. “Sin Pijama,” for example, peaked the No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Airplay chart (dated August 11, 2018).

Signed to Sony Music Latin and HAMM (Hecho a Mano Music), Camilo made his debut as a singer with his first single and video, “No Te Vayas” on March 28, 2019, with the video generating over 59 million views on YouTube. On Aug. 9, Camilo officially released his second single, “Tutu,” a collaboration with Puerto Rican singer Pedro Capó. Its music video generated over 30 million views during the first week.

Meet this week’s Latin artist on the rise, Camilo.

Name: Camilo Echeverry

Age: 25

How do you describe yourself: “Camilo is an honest singer who uses love as a reason for his songs.”

What have you learned from Ricardo Montaner? "To trust and know that what God gave me is enough to succeed."

Major Accomplishment: Having over 2 million subscribers on Youtube, Camilo was nominated as favorite YouTuber at the 2019 Kids Choice Awards Mexico.  Also, in the U.S., he debuted in national television performing “No Te Vayas” and “La Boca” with Mau y Ricky at 2019 Premios Juventud.

Recommended Song: “Tutu” with Pedro Capó.  It is a pop song based on urban beats.  The lyric was inspired by the love Camilo feels for his girlfriend, Eva Luna Montaner, who is also the protagonist of the video.  “This song is who I am, what I feel every time I get on a stage or when I see my girlfriend.”

What’s Next:  Camilo will continue his tour in Latin America promoting “Tutu,” while working on final details for his first album.
