Paloma Mami stopped by the Billboard offices in New York to take the Growing Up Latino hot seat and talk all about her Chilean background.

The emerging singer, who’s known for her singles “Not Steady,” “No Te Enamores,” and “Fingias,” describes her R&B, Latin trap, and urban melodies as having an “elegant flow.”

In this week’s episode, however, she gets real about her culture, dream collaborations, and more. “Being Latina meant being spicy, having attitude always,” she tells Billboard. She then shares a wave of Chilean slang and curse words, including cachai, bakan, and po.

Paloma, who’s a vegetarian, says her favorite home cooked meals are pastel de choclo (Andean corn dish), deep-fried empanadas, and fish. “Chile’s a really beautiful country,” she says, highlighting some landscapes, such as la cordillera and its beaches.

When asked about her dream collaborations, Paloma says she’d love to work with Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and Daddy Yankee. “The best thing about being a Latin artist is the culture that we have,” she emphasizes. “Every country has a different style of music and I love that.”
