2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards: Juan Luis Guerra to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor

Juan Luis Guerra will receive Billboard’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards in recognition of his career.

Juan Luis Guerra will receive Billboard’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards on April 25 in recognition of his exceptional and enduring career.

Guerra is one of the most recognizable names in Latin music, who throughout his 35-year career has launched 15 successful albums and sold over 30 million records worldwide.

The Dominican musician, composer, singer and arranger who brought the sounds of bachata and merengue to the world has notched 42 songs on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. Six of those songs hit No. 1, including the chart-toppers “La Llave de Mi Corazón” which reigned for four weeks in 2007, and “Cuando Me Enamoro” the Enrique Iglesias song on which he is featured, which led for 17 non-consecutive weeks in 2010. On the Top Latin Albums chart, he’s placed 11 top 10 titles and three No. 1 albums. Guerra’s song “Ojala Que Llueve Café” is one of the best-known Latin songs of all time.

“It’s a great privilege for me to receive this recognition from the Billboard Latin Music Awards,” Guerra said upon learning of the honor. “I’m grateful for the continuous support that I’ve received, which has blessed me with the opportunity to do what I love during these 35 years of my career. It fills me with joy every time I get to be present in front of all of you.”

Billboard, together with Telemundo, bestows its annual Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award to an artist with an enduring and exceptional career, who has expanded the reach of Latin music, whose contributions go beyond music and whose influence has had a major impact on Latin music worldwide. Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Carlos SantanaJose JoséMarco Antonio SolisManá and Ricardo Arjona.

Guerra will also be a special guest at 2019 Billboard Latin Music Week, where he will discuss his career during the “Legend Q&A” session on Wednesday, April 24, at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

The 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards will air live on Telemundo on Thursday, April 25 at 8pm/7c from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The show will also air simultaneously on Spanish-language entertainment cable network, Universo, and throughout the Americas via Telemundo Internacional.
