Warm your Home with this Guave Atole's Recipe from Mexico

Delicious Guave Atole: Ingredients and tips to prepare at home a great Guave Atole.

Atole is a traditional hot drink from Mexico and a real holiday treat! Usually accompanied with tamales, this seasonal favorite is made from corn and is sometimes flavored. Try this tropical twist on the traditional delight.

Ingredients

- 5 tablespoons of cornstarch

- 1 cup of cold water

- 3 quarts of water

- 1 cinnamon stick (about 2 inches long)

- 2 cups of sugar, or to taste

- 3 cups of fresh guava (600 grams)

- A pinch of baking soda

- 1 cup of water

-3 cans of evaporated milk

 

Preparation

1. Dissolve the cornstarch in the cup of cold water.

2. Boil the 3 quarts of water in a large saucepan with the cinnamon. Stir in the dissolved cornstarch and let it boil for 4 more minutes on medium heat. Keep stirring.

3. Stir in the sugar and mix well.

4. In a blender, puree the guava with one cup of water until it is a liquid. Strain the liquid into the boiling saucepan. Add the baking soda and let it boil for 5 more minutes. Stir continuously.

5. Now that the guava is cooked, slowly add the evaporated milk to the saucepan while stirring for at least 3 more minutes.
