Latin Connection Podcast: Luis Fonsi Speaks on Helping Puerto Rico

“I’m trying to put my best face before I go onstage knowing the world is upside down,” he says.

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico while native son Luis Fonsi was in the middle of his first major U.S. tour. Balancing the joy of performing for thousands with the anguish of not knowing what was happening on the island was a tough balance for Fonsi to maintain, as he tells Billboard in the latest episode of the Latin Connection podcast.

“I’m trying to put my best face before I go onstage knowing the world is upside down,” he says. “The first show I had after Maria, I felt embarrassed to go out onstage. I didn’t have the energy.”

Listen to what Fonsi had to say about Maria and how he’s trying to help La Perla, the neighborhood where the “Despacito” video was filmed.

Before that, a look at the strategy behind the Beyonce remix of “Mi Gente.”
