Jennifer Lopez: “I Remember Only Getting to Have One Piece of Pizza Every Day When I Was a Dancer”

Jenny from the block really paid her dues before she became one of the most successful women in Showbiz.

Jenny from the block really paid her dues before she became one of the most successful women in Showbiz. Today, she serves as an executive producer on the new NBC dance competition show World of Dance, and during NBC summer press day, she admitted that the show takes her back to her roots.

“I always consider myself as a dancer first. I became a singer and actress after dancing. For me, it's so part of who I am,” she said.

Before starring in Selena and recording her first album On The 6, J.Lo landed the role as a Fly Girl on In Living Color.

The 47-year-old admitted to struggling every day and making very little money during her early days as a dancer.

“I remember only getting to have one piece of pizza every day when I was a dancer,” she said. “That's how I lived. I did that for a couple of years before I got my first big job. I wouldn't trade it for the world. For me, coming from that struggle, this is a dream come true for me. I don't say that lightly.”

In addition to executively producing, J.Lo will also be judging the competition. The Shades of Blue star also admits that she learned a lot during her days on American Idol.

“When I did ‘American Idol,’ I learned so many people can sing, but not everyone can make you get up and dance or make you cry,” she said. “That makes you an artist.”
