TELEMUNDO MEDIA ANNOUNCES THE FAMOUS HOSTESS MODEL, AND  FASHION MOGUL, DAISY FUENTES,  AS THE HOST ON THE GLOBAL HIT COMPETITION “LA VOZ KIDS”

Telemundo Media announced that the famous Cuban-American television host, model and fashion mogul, Daisy Fuentes, will join as the host on the network’s upcoming singing competition “ La Voz Kids,” slated to premiere in the spring, together with previously announced coaches Paulina Rubio, Prince Royce and Roberto Tapia.

The announcement comes full circle for Fuentes who began her television career as a weather-girl at Telemundo’s New York City affiliate, WNJU. The Cuban-born model became the first VJ to be signed to both MTV U.S. and MTV Latino, launching her as an international star.  Fuentes hosted some of the network’s most iconic series including “MTV’s House of Style,” “MTV Spring Break,” “Beach MTV” and launched MTV Latino, MTV’s first 24-hour Spanish Language network. Fuentes went on to host “America’s Funniest Home Videos” for ABC, various “Miss Universe Pageants” and “Miss USA Pageants,” “Countdown to the Latin Grammy’s,” “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” and hosted her own primetime talk show on CNBC.

A pioneer in celebrity branding, Fuentes parlayed her success into a fashion and lifestyle empire. No stranger to promoting brands, Fuentes began her career as a model and became the first Hispanic face of Revlon and signed to a worldwide contract, followed by endorsements for major corporations such as Pantene, American Express, M&Ms, among others. As a registered trademark, daisy fuentes® now sells exclusively at KOHL’S. Her lifestyle brand includes sportswear, intimates, accessories, handbags, swimwear, shoes, sunglasses, prescription eyewear, bedding and a franchise of fragrances. The most recent addition to the brand is a line of wigs and hairpieces, called WOW by Daisy Fuentes. Fuentes’ line is the second longest running celebrity brand in history, exceeding 950 million dollars in sales.

“I am delighted to join La Voz Kids. I feel this is the best singing competition show on TV. It’s going to be a super fun ride”, said Daisy Fuentes.

“Having Daisy in La Voz Kids means a lot for the NBCU/Telemundo family. This is the best way to welcome her again to the network! This show is perfect for her profile: she is a great talent with musical expertise and has tons of passion. She would add great value to the project. Daisy could be the key to connect the most popular genres in Latin music, viewers of different ages, and coaches from different backgrounds”, said Daniel Cubillo, Vice President of Content Development, Non-Scripted, at Telemundo Media.

The show’s innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the Blind Audition, then the battle round, and finally, the performance shows.  During the Blind Auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches have their back to the participants and hear them perform, but they don't get to see them -- thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the participant’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the participant for his/her team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel so that he/she can face the participant he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes their button, the power then shifts to the participant to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes his or her button, the participant is eliminated from the competition.

Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their team of participants, giving them advice, and sharing the secrets of their success along with the help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds the coaches will pit three of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience.

In the final performance phase of the competition, the top participants from each team will compete each week against each other. The television audience and the Coaches will decide who will stay in the competition.  In the end, one will be named "La Voz Kids" and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract and a scholarship.

“La Voz Kids” is a presentation of Talpa Media USA Inc. The show is created by John de Mol, who will executive-produce along with Stijn Bakkers and Katrina Fernandez.
