Roberto Tapia joins "La Voz Kids"

Telemundo Media announced that the leading Regional Mexican music singer Roberto Tapia will join as the third musician coach on the network’s upcoming singing competition “La Voz Kids” slated to premiere in the spring. Roberto Tapia joins previously announced musician coaches, Paulina Rubio and Prince Royce.

It is an honor to have him join the show and I am sure he is going to be a tough competitor for Paulina Rubio and Prince Royce.”

Roberto Tapia, one of Regional Mexican music’s most charismatic and talented artists, is now among the best-selling musicians in the country thanks to his highly anticipated album titled “El Muchacho” (“The Young Guy”), which made it to #1 in the Billboard Hot Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Sales charts.
Roberto Tapia was born in San Diego, CA and raised in Culiacán, Mexico. He is the producer and writer of all of his new musical material, out of which “Mirando al Cielo” (“Gazing at the Sky”) is the first promotional single that has led him to the #1 position among the most played radio lists. Having started his music career early in his childhood, at age nine he studied music and learned to play various instruments including clarinet, guitar and tambora. At age 17, he made his professional debut in Tijuana, Mexico alongside the band Lobito de Sinaloa. In 2001, he started assembling a group of musicians for his debut album and in August 2002 released his self-titled album featuring a unique mix of “corridos” with Latin rhythms and touches of hip-hop and electronica. With more than eight albums, he also is an accomplished songwriter and musical arranger of his own records and of other music projects by leading Mexican music artists. Most recently, he was named a finalist in the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards for the Regional Mexican Albums Artist of the Year, Solo category.
Featuring two, soon to be announced, hosts – the show’s innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the Blind Audition, then the battle round, and finally, the performance shows. During the Blind Auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches have their back to the participants and hear them perform, but they don't get to see them -- thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the participant’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the participant for his/her team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel so that he/she can face the participant he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes their button, the power then shifts to the participant to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes his or her button, the participant is eliminated from the competition.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their team of participants, giving them advice, and sharing the secrets of their success along with the help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds the coaches will pit three of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience.
In the final performance phase of the competition, the top participants from each team will compete each week against each other. The television audience and the Coaches will decide who will stay in the competition. In the end, one will be named "La Voz Kids" and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract and a scholarship.
